This project has been inspired by the fire breathing big BHP Group B rally cars that were banned in the mid 1980's. With a love for these cars in mind I'm creating a mid engine RWD track day car using a MK6 Escort as the base car and a Subaru Impreza turbo engine/gearbox to power it.
With the Subaru engine being quite light and having a low centre of gravity, (due to the flat 4 configuration) the car should have a good power to weight ratio and hopefully handle well, with a good suspension setup.
The engine bay is finished, the front panel is welded on and the roll cage is tied into the front turrets. I am just trial fitting the front wings and the bonnet at the momment to see how things line up and all is good, i need to fabricate new mounts for the bumper and the wings next.
The rear turrets are now finished and tied in to the main cage, i used the top parts of the turrets out of the subaru and fabricated the rest myself, i made a jig to keep them positioned correctly whilst i cut them out. Check out the gallery for plenty pics. The next job is to fabricate the rear subframe mounts.
